Summer Holidays and return to school

Summer Holidays and return to school

27th June 2019

Dear Parents / Guardians,

Re: Summer Holidays and return to school

Another school year has finished and we say goodbye to a 6th Class who have graduated and move onto a new journey in secondary school. We wish them all the best for the future and look forward to seeing all the other children in the school next year as they excitedly move to their new classrooms and teachers.

Of course, this past year has been very challenging for lots of reasons but, the children, parents and staff of TETNS have shown great resilience and patience to ensure the impact on learning was as minimal as possible, given the circumstances.

As you will be aware, extensive building works are due to be undertaken by the Department of Education & Skills this coming summer in order to permanently rectify the structural issues we have experienced. As a result, engineers and construction workers will begin work in the school on the afternoon of Friday, 28th June 2019, once all of the children have gone home.

Given the size of our building, we have been informed by the Department of Education & Skills that remedial works will last for the entire summer holiday period. Previously, we advised parents that the school would reopen to children on Tuesday 27th August 2019 however, it has been decided that children will NOT come back to school on that date but, wait until Monday 2nd September to ensure sufficient time to complete the Works. This is the last possible date that all schools around the country have the option of reopening on and this year we have no choice but to wait until then.

All classes (except new Junior Infants) will return on 2nd September with a normal day starting at 8:40am and finishing at 2:20pm (1:20pm for Senior Infants).

In terms of the new Junior Infants starting school for the first time, their first week timetable will be as follows:

Mon., 2nd Sept.Tues., 3rd Sept.Wed., 4th Sept.Thurs., 5th Sept.Fri., 6th Sept.
School Opens after the Summer Holidays

Times: 8:40am – 12:00pm

Times: 8:40am – 12:00pmTimes: 8:40am – 12:00pmTimes: 8:40am – 12:00pmTimes: 8:40am – 1:20pm

(this time will continue for the rest of the year from today)

The school calendar you recently received home will stay the same except for the start date previously noted.

Should there be any further updates from the Department of Education & Skills during the Summer months, we will advise you via email, website and our social media accounts.

Finally, we would like to wish all the children and parents a happy and safe holiday and we look forward to seeing you in September!

Kind regards

Tim Stapleton
