School closure – COVID-19

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Dear Parents / Guardians,

As you will be aware from the News, all schools have been instructed to close until 30th March 2020 s a result of the COVID – 19 / Coronavirus crisis.

We understand that this is a very challenging time for parents and guardians, especially when it comes to organising childcare and ensuring there is minimal impact on your child’s education.

Although we cannot remain open, we want to support you and your children as much as we can during this difficult time. Therefore, we have put together some OPTIONAL school work your children can undertake during the time the school is closed.

We have given the type of work some serious consideration and have compiled a list of work that children from a range of classes, abilities and needs can undertake in order to help keep them in an educational routine and reinforce the learning they have already done in school.

This work will be uploaded onto our school website www.tetns.ie. A link has been placed at the top of the home page. Please bear in mind that this is an extensive list of work that is not compulsory nor is it a requirement that the children complete every activity listed. It is at the parents and guardians discretion what work they would like their children to get through over this time off. It is important that you consider what is achievable given your child’s age, ability and needs and please be reassured that the teachers will not be expecting all children to have completed the same amount of work.

As children in Setanta, Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class are younger and more tactile learners different work will be sent home by their teachers.

Please find attached a social story about COVID-19 and some advice from the Department of Education about speaking to children about the current situation.

I trust the above is clear and ultimately we hope that everyone remains healthy and safe over the period the school is closed and we will be delighted to welcome the children back to school when we are given the instruction to reopen.

Take care,
