On Tuesday, there will be a Margadh Cístí (cake sale) that 6th class is organising. If pupils would like to contribute, they can make some buns, fairy cakes or Rice Krispies cakes (no nuts allowed) and bring them in on Tuesday morning when 6th class will collect them. Pupils may bring in some money to buy some of the tasty treats. All the money raised from the cake sale will go towards the 6th class tour.
We invite parents to join in on the celebrations on Thursday for Féile Lá Padraigh. We will be celebrating our Irish language and culture through song, drama and dance. We will also be teaching the simple Irish phrases that can be found on our facebook page.

School Car Park Safety
It is always worthwhile having a discussion with children about road safety and to remind them to stay on the footpaths on their journey to/from school and once they reach the school car-park. Please remind them of the importance of looking both ways before they cross the road (even at pedestrian crossings). We had several dinosaur related stations during Aistear. One of the most popular of which was when we all played the role of palaeontologists at the sand station. We searched in the sand, found bones and assembled them to make dinosaur fossils. We have also been learning the names of several dinosaurs and other big words like herbivore, carnivore and omnivore. In Maths we carried out some dinosaur related surveys, the class were asked if they would like dinosaurs to come back to earth and the majority voted Yes! Another survey we did was to find out everyone’s favourite type of dinosaur. The most popular was the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Meredith and Lisa’s class have been working on persuasive writing for the past few weeks. We wrote some persuasive pieces on topics that we felt strongly about. We then reviewed and edited them before typing them up on the Chromebooks and displaying them in the classroom. We have also had fun playing Kahoot on the Chromebooks!
In Science we had good fun with a “bouncing raisins” experiment, predicting what would happen when raisins were put in fizzy lemonade, conducting the experiment and recording the results.
We had a special visitor to the class to tell us about her home country of Nigeria. We tried out an oji (mortar) and eikpo (pestle) used for grinding and mashing foods such as yam, corn, and tomatoes. Everyone tried to see if they could snap a traditional Nigerian sweeping brush, and found — to our surprise — that no one could! It taught us a lesson about the importance of working together: if everyone works as a team, we are unbreakable like the brush, but if we work against each other we aren’t as strong, just as the individual fibers of the brush can be snapped.

Palacio last week. Many people may have seen the movie, but it’s a wonderful uplifting story about kindness, friendship and respect as a boy called August embarks on a difficult journey through school. You can’t blend in when you were born to stand out, and one of the lessons we learned was that “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind!”
From next Tuesday, the three 6th classes will be going over to Le Chéile Secondary School to do a series of Spikeball lessons with their T.Y. students, and we’re all looking forward to it.
Our Swimming lessons have been brilliant so far and well done to all the children who make sure to remember all of their gear each week.
The swim instructors have commented on the excellent behaviour and marked progress of the TETNS children so far.
