A note from Tim
Dear children and parents,
A belated Happy New Year to everyone in our school community. By now we have all settled back into the school routine and I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone the very best for the next term of the school year.
It is going to be a very busy term with swimming having already started as well as the return of numerous sports sessions to the school. We hope you all enjoy these experiences and it is great to now be heading into Spring!
Our Parent’s Association have done fantastic work this term and we want to thank them for organising the brilliant Pajama Day Fundraiser which the children loved. Thanks must also go to all the parents for contributing to the fundraiser because all of your donations are going to have a huge impact in affording resources for the children.
We are also delighted that the Parent’s Coffee Morning is returning to the school on 16th February and would be thrilled to have as many parents as possible to come along and meet other parents in the school.
Finally, I want to commend and celebrate all of the children in our school. They have been working extremely hard in class and one thing I have been very impressed with is all of our Star of the Week winners this year. The teachers have spoken so highly of all of you and the high standards you set in the school.
Keep up the great work everyone!!!
Tim

Keith’s 3rd Class

Keith’s class have started 2026 by learning all about analogue and digital time. The class have really worked hard to figure out analogue time. In Irish we’ve been learning stór focal faoin aimsir. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Caitlin who told us so much about life in South Africa and got us up dancing to Waka Waka – This Time for Africa! In art, we were inspired by Retrofuturism and we built space-age buildings that would belong in a city of the future. We also really enjoyed learning how to play table tennis after Paul set up tables so we could practice our skills.
Paul’s 4th Class

This term in Maths, we’ve been having lots of fun exploring measurement in practical ways. Using iPads, we linked our learning with PE by recording our standing long jumps, measuring how far we could jump and watching our techniques back in slow motion. We also used apps to explore perimeter, measuring and investigating a range of objects and items around our school. We used our measurement skills to be architects too and designed our dream bedrooms with all the right measurements given.
In History, we learned all about the Aztecs. We created Aztec clothing using paper and different materials and even made traditional Aztec hot chocolate in the staffroom! It included chilli, cocoa powder and vanilla extract, while it was interesting to try, it wasn’t overly popular in the end!
Shane’s 4th Class

This month, Shane’s class started swimming lessons in the National Aquatic Centre.
In maths, we have been exploring the properties of 3D shapes. We all chose a different way of representing what we learned; some people built models, some people created posters, some people wrote quizzes and some people drew graphs.
In history, we learned about the ancient Aztec civilization. We researched the various elements of their civilization such as; location, customs, buildings, food, gods and goddesses and clothing. Our favourite activities from this topic were making Aztec hot chocolate using 99% dark chocolate, vanilla and chillis and creating traditional Aztec costumes using various art materials!

We discussed Internet Safety and we’ve started to design posters to convey how important it is. We also discussed technology through the ages and had a little quiz on it!
We are going to go on our SESE tour shortly and we are currently learning all about dinosaurs.
We really enjoyed the PJ Fundraiser the PA organised. Very cosy.
Written by Aisleen with contributions from Grace, Rían and Felicia.
Mallorie’s 5th Class

Busy term in Mallorie’s 5th class. We started our swim lessons for PE which the children were fantastic at. They came well prepared and organised.
For the month of January there was a huge focus on food and nutrition in our class. The children made a great effort to improve their quality of lunches to ensure they are getting a healthy balanced diet everyday. We took a trip to Lidl to buy ingredients for cooking that they did for homework. Mallorie was incredibly impressed with what was produced by the children and hopes the children continue to take a keen interest in healthy eating and cooking.
We are also currently studying the topic of Dinosaurs and linking it in with SESE, English and art lessons. We will be going on a SESE tour to Dublin Zoo to participate in a Dinosaur tour where we hope to gain the skills of becoming a scientist and a historian.
Internet Safety day was recently, lots of lessons and discussions on this topic have been had in the class. We linked that in with Valentines where the children enjoyed spreading positivity in the class by learning to become positive bystanders and creating PAL-entines cards and art for each other. See picture attached of the children exchanging their cards.
Well done on a great term!
Claire C’s 6th Class

This half term we have been learning about internet safety. We now know about cyber bullying and how it affects people. In maths we were also learning how to convert fractions decimals and percentages along with finding the surface area of 3D-shapes. In Geography we worked in groups to research a European country of our choice and present our projects to our peers. To celebrate the Winter Olympics, in STEAM we made skiers using tinfoil, pipe cleaners, lollipop sticks and tape and we tested the skiers to see which one could travel down a ramp the fastest. We also studied the fascinating facts about World War 2 where 50 million people died. In Gaeilge we have been working very hard learning our Briathra Neamhrialta agus frasaí as Gaeilge.
Aisling’s 6th Class

This half term has been full of exciting learning and exploration. After our trip to Croke Park, we used the knowledge we gained on our tour to support our GAA group projects, exploring the history and importance of the organisation in Irish sport and culture. Using our geography skills, we also investigated Dublin’s future Metro system, planning and selecting our own routes while working within a set budget. We really enjoyed taking part in the Table Tennis Takeover, and in art we explored silhouettes through our Hurler on the Moon inspired paintings. To finish the term, we have been practising the song Killeagh as Gaeilge and are looking forward to performing it for Seachtain na Gaeilge.
Francis’ 6th Class

Francis’ class enjoyed rugby coaching over the last few weeks; while it was a new sport for many of us, we made an effort to try our best!
In Geography we decided it was well past time that Dublin’s metro got built and so we designed and budgeted a metro system for county Dublin with a budget of €500million. Some of the suggestions were rail-ly good!
We’ve also started the aquatic strand in PE which is going swimmingly.
In Geography we were assigned a random US state and have designed travel brochures highlighting the state’s best features! It was our Maine focus for the last few weeks.
Active Schools TETNS Table Tennis Takeover

Our Active Schools Committee recently organised a brilliant Table Tennis Takeover event for pupils from 2nd to 6th Class and what a success it was!
The event gave pupils the opportunity to learn more about table tennis, develop new skills, and most importantly, have lots of fun while being active. Throughout the day, the assembly space was buzzing with excitement as pupils practised their serves, improved their hand eye coordination, and took part in friendly games with their classmates.
Table tennis is a fantastic sport for developing balance, concentration, coordination, and quick decision-making skills. It also encourages teamwork, resilience, and positive sportsmanship, all qualities we love to promote in our school. It was wonderful to see pupils of all abilities getting involved, supporting one another, and enjoying the challenge.
A huge well done to our Active Schools Committee for organising such an engaging and inclusive event. Their leadership and enthusiasm ensured that the day ran smoothly and that everyone had the opportunity to participate.
We hope this event inspires even more pupils to pick up a paddle and keep active!
